  • 1.) Work from anywhere, at any time

This is the most appealing benefit of online Optometry education for Optometrist with many duties to balance. Since everything is available online, accessing class materials and submitting work is very convenient. Exactly when and where this takes place is up to student, as long as assignment due dates are met.

    2.) Review lectures instantly

It’s easy for minds to wander during a lecture. We found that fellows lose focus about 5 times in a 45-minute class session. In online programs, however, students can review words from professors instantly, either by rewinding the audio or video or by reading the transcript that accompanies the lecture.

    3.) Less intimidating

Many fellows in classroom environments aren’t comfortable speaking in public. In an online environment, it can be much easier to share thoughts with others. With 74 percent of people suffering from speech anxiety, online education tends to foster better class participation.

4.) More time to think before sharing

Online studies still has a discussion element to it, often in a black board discussion. On-campus students have to choose a stance or formulate a thought in class quickly, and sometimes speak before they’ve fully examined everything. In an online environment, fellow can spend as much time as they want thinking about and honing their own ideas. This can lead to greater confidence and more elegant discussions.

    5.) Focus on ideas

Online fellows don’t have to worry about body language interfering with their message. While body language can be effective sometimes, academics are more about ideas, and online education eliminates physical judgments that can cloud rational discussion.

    6.) Group communication

Fellowship programs incorporate some sort of group project or teamwork, foster virtual communication and allow students to work with team members via email, chat rooms and other easy-to-use methods.

    7.) Flexible learning schedule

A student can experience the first half of a lesson one day, and the second half the next day. This can be especially helpful for those who don’t enjoy sitting in one place for too long.

    8.) Cost

Although the cost of an online course can be less than a traditional course, Fellow can save money by avoiding many fees typical of campus-based education, including lab fees, travelling, commuting costs, hostels, etc.

    9.) Instructor availability

At traditional study, talking to a professor after class can be challenging. Yes, instructors have office hours, but it’s often only an hour or two each week, with too many students waiting for attention. While professors who teach online may also have set hours for student interaction, web-based technologies make conversing with multiple students at once much easier. Professors can also hop online at night or during intermissions to address questions, leave comments and more.

  • For students looking to explore the world of Optometry after graduation, the choice doing a fellowship may be weighing heavily on their minds. Many optometrist students are unaware that fellowships in Optometry exist. Students may also be confused as to how they differ from residencies.

In qualifying for and maintaining fellowship, individuals are evaluated against the highest standards of professional competence. Fellowship is open to the following professionals who demonstrate that they meet Academy standards:

    • Optometrists who are Graduates or accredited to practice at the highest level permitted by law in India
    • Educators, Practitioners and administrators who have accredited themselves and optometry by their contributions to optometry

  • The Online Labs is an educational initiative pioneered by Indian Academy of Optometry through virtual laboratories.

The Optometry labs can also be made available to fellow. The practical procedures can be accessed anytime and anywhere, overcoming the constraints on time felt when having access to the physical lab for only a short period of time.

Real Ophthalmic/Optometric lab scenarios are captured through live demonstration of the procedure so as to assimilate information on the procedures and lab equipment. Visualization and development of the graphical symbols are done based on realistic situations and compared with the respective real equipment.

  • Indian Academy Fellowship Training integrates three learning styles: visual, auditory and Hands on training.Hands-on training is used for teaching people how to perform specific tasks. It allows learners to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Unlike traditional classroom training, in which learners listen to lectures, and where they might view photos, illustrations and videos, hands-on learners are actively involved. For many fellow, it's a better way to learn because they're more apt to remember something they've done, as opposed to something they've heard or have read.
